1. Educational information only
Everything on this site, including calculators, charts, guides, comparisons and blog posts, is provided for general information and learning. It is not a substitute for scuba training from a certified instructor, for the standards of your training agency, or for the rules that apply where you dive.
2. Calculator results are estimates
The calculators use simplified formulas and typical values for body weight, exposure suits, tanks and water. Results are starting estimates, typically within about 2 kg, and can be wrong for you. Real buoyancy depends on your body, your gear, the age and condition of your suit, the tank you use, the water, how much air is in your lungs and many other factors. Tank, suit and gear figures are typical values and may differ from your equipment. Always confirm your weighting with a buoyancy check in the water, with a qualified instructor or professional present where appropriate, before relying on any number from this site.
3. Diving involves risk
Scuba diving carries inherent risks, including serious injury and death. Incorrect weighting, poor buoyancy control, equipment failure and many other factors can contribute to accidents. Always dive within your training and experience, follow the procedures taught by your training agency, use properly maintained equipment, dive with a buddy and follow local laws and dive-site rules. Never ignore advice from an instructor, dive guide or dive operator because of something you read here.
4. Medical fitness
Fitness to dive is a medical question. Nothing on this site tells you whether you are medically fit to dive. If you have a medical condition, or are unsure, speak to a doctor trained in diving medicine before you dive. Information about body weight, build or fitness is general and is not medical advice.
5. Equipment and manufacturers
Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions, specifications and ratings for your equipment, including BCD lift, weight system capacity and tank specifications. Information about lead weights is general. Handle lead safely and dispose of it according to local rules. Mention of equipment types does not endorse any product or brand.
6. Accuracy and changes
We try to keep the information accurate and up to date, but we do not guarantee that it is complete, current or error-free. Standards, equipment and regulations change. We may update or remove content at any time without notice. If you find an error, please contact us.
7. No affiliation
This site is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any dive training agency, equipment manufacturer or dive operator.
