1. Who we are and what this policy covers
This policy explains how Scuba Weight Calculator (“we”, “us”, “our”) handles personal information when you use scubaweightcalculator.com (the “site”). We are the controller of the personal information described here. You can reach us at [email protected] or through the contact page.
2. Information we collect
Calculator inputs
When you use a calculator, the values you enter, such as body weight, suit and tank, are processed in your browser. They are not sent to our servers, we do not store them, and we cannot see them.
Messages you send us
If you use the contact form or email us, we receive the information you provide: your name, email address, the topic, the content of your message, and anything else you choose to include. The form also passes us the page you came from, your IP address and your browser’s user-agent text, which we use to prevent abuse.
Technical data and server logs
Like most websites, the servers that deliver this site (our web host and any security or content-delivery service) automatically record technical information when pages are requested, such as your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, your browser and device type, and the referring page. This is used to run, secure and troubleshoot the site.
What we do not collect
We do not ask you to create an account, we do not run user comments, and we do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information. Please do not include health or other sensitive details in a message to us.
3. How we use information
- To read and reply to messages and to deal with corrections and suggestions.
- To keep the site secure, prevent spam and abuse, and fix technical problems.
- To keep records that the law may require, and to protect our rights if a dispute arises.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for automated decision-making or profiling.
4. Legal bases (EEA, UK and similar laws)
Where data-protection law such as the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we process personal information on these bases: legitimate interests (running and securing the site and answering messages sent to us), consent (where you tick the box on the contact form, which you may withdraw at any time), and legal obligation where we must keep or disclose information by law.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
The site itself does not set cookies for tracking, advertising or personalisation, and the calculators do not use cookies or browser storage to keep what you enter. Our hosting or security providers may set strictly necessary technical cookies, for example to protect the site from attacks. If we add any non-essential cookies in future, we will update this policy and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent first.
6. Analytics and advertising
We do not currently use analytics or advertising services on this site. If we introduce them, we will describe the provider, what data it collects and how to opt out in this policy before or when they go live, and we will update the date above.
7. Service providers and who receives information
We share information only with providers that help us run the site, such as our web host, email provider and any security or content-delivery service, and only so far as needed to provide their service. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect rights, safety or property. These providers act on our instructions or under their own privacy terms.
8. Social media and external links
The site links to our profiles on Facebook, X, LinkedIn and Pinterest, and may link to other websites. These are ordinary links: clicking one takes you to that service, which has its own privacy policy and may collect information about you. We do not embed social media plug-ins or tracking pixels on the site, and we are not responsible for other sites.
9. International transfers
Our providers may process information in countries other than your own. Where we transfer personal information from the EEA or UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses where required.
10. How long we keep information
- Messages and emails: for as long as needed to respond and to keep a reasonable record, normally no longer than 24 months, unless the law requires longer.
- Server logs: kept by our hosting provider for a limited period for security and troubleshooting.
11. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to: access the personal information we hold about you; correct it; ask us to delete it; restrict or object to our use of it; receive a copy in a portable format; withdraw consent where we rely on it; and complain to your local data-protection authority. Residents of some US states, including California, may also have the right to know what personal information we collect and to request its deletion. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context advertising.
To exercise a right, email [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity, and we will respond within the time required by law.
12. Children
The site is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 where local law sets a higher age), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
13. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and limited access to messages. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we add analytics or advertising. The date at the top shows when it was last changed. Please check it periodically.
15. Contact
For privacy questions or requests, contact us at [email protected] or through the contact form. See also our terms of use and disclaimer.
